How to Verify Your Local Business on Facebook Right Now

Like the verified Twitter check marks, as of today, your business can be verified in Facebook too. This is a great feature for a number of reasons.

Customers. They will now know they are “talking’ to your company directly, not some other person/company impersonating your business.

Hijacking. If some of your competitors, disgruntled customers create a separate page for your business the new Facebook verified badge will identify your page as the “real” business page.

SEO. Search Engine Optimization. Google uses social signals to help legitimize a business. It can help you rank. The more “authority sources” you have your local address on the more likely you are to show up for local search (and other searches). Since this checkmark is new, it may not be in Google’s algorithm right now but I would hypothesize it will be.

How to get your Facebook verification check mark for your local business in three steps.

1. Click on the settings link at the top of your business page (you must be logged-in):

2. Click the Page Verification link:

3. It will ask you if you want to verify by phone or by submitting a phone bill. If you do the phone route make sure you’re beside the phone – they call immediately and give you a code to add in the on page box. And that’s it. If you submit a bill it could take a bit longer.
